Danner Delivers Women of Excellence Lecture at University of Delaware
Mona Danner, Old Dominion University professor of sociology and criminal justice and director of the department's Ph.D. program, was invited to deliver the University of Delaware's annual Women of Excellence Lecture on Tuesday, May 12.
During her lecture, Danner gave an overview of the state of women in higher education and a practical primer on job strategies in academia, encouraging women to use the art of negotiation to combat the gender and wage imbalance they face working in the higher education field.
Danner, who said she has coached women in workshops and individually for many years, offered tips and strategies on negotiating for academic positions, adding that she had been on the other side of negotiating as an administrator and associate dean.
An article in the UDaily quoted Danner as saying, "Money matters. It's real, but there are other things to be negotiated, such as teaching load, summer money and other conditions needed to do the job for which you are hired."
