Annual Engineering Awards Recognize Finest at Batten College
Fifteen students and five faculty members received honors at the Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology's annual awards dinner.
The event was held Friday, May 8, at the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club.
"One of the joys of my job is the right to announce the winners of Batten College excellence awards," said Oktay Baysal, dean of the college. "Please join me in congratulating each of these outstanding members of our Batten College of Engineering and Technology team and family.
"The faculty members have made their profession proud, and we recognize each of them as being excellent in their fields. The student award winners represent the very best our college has to offer."
The faculty award winners included:
The Excellence Award in Student Advising was given to Bonita Anthony, assistant director of the Engineering Fundamentals division; the Excellence Award in Industry Partnering was given to Anthony Dean, assistant professor of engineering technology; the Excellence Award in Research went to Andreas Sousa-Poza, associate professor of engineering management; the Excellence Award in Teaching was given to Sacharia Albin, professor of electrical and computer engineering; and the Excellence Award in Support Operations was given to Elvie Lawrence, program support technician for the engineering technology department. Engineering technology Professor Taj Mohieldin received the Faculty Retiree Award.
Among the students, the Faculty Award for Academic Excellence in Engineering was presented to Matthew Davis, a mechanical engineering major. Davis also won the Faculty Award in Mechanical Engineering.
The J. Harold Lampe Award for Overall Excellence in Engineering went to Bonney McJunkin, a mechanical engineering major.
The Lee M. Klinefelter Award for Overall Excellence in Engineering Technology was presented to Thomas Valentine. The Faculty Award for Academic Excellence in Engineering Technology was given to Patrick Krystyn.
The Faculty Award in Civil Engineering went to Jonathan Scheuermann. He also captured the Faculty Award in Naval Science. The Faculty Award in Civil Engineering Technology was given to Amy Sharkey.
The Faculty Award in Environmental Engineering went to Adrienne Williams. The Faculty Award in Computer Engineering was given to Rupalbahen Patel. The Faculty Award in Electrical Engineering was presented to Benjamin Robinson. The Faculty Award in Mechanical Engineering Technology was given to Matthew Willard.
The Faculty Award in Engineering Management and Systems Engineering went to Kevin Wilson. The Faculty Award in Aerospace Engineering was given to Aravind Hanasoge. And the Faculty Award in Electrical Engineering Technology was presented to Henry Morris.
