Open Enrollment Period for Benefits, Flexible Reimbursement Accounts, Continues Until May 15

The open enrollment period for health benefits and flexible reimbursement accounts for Old Dominion University employees continues until May 15.

During open enrollment, employees may:

-- Add or remove optional features;

-- Add eligible family members not currently covered;

-- Remove eligible family members who no longer need the coverage.

Most ODU employees will see a slight change in the provider of their health benefits.

Effective July 1, COVA Connect with Optima Health will be the health coverage for employees living in the following Hampton Roads ZIP codes currently covered by COVA Care: Chesapeake (23320-23328); Hampton (23630, 23651, 23663-23670, 23681); Norfolk (23501-23515, 23517-23521, 23523, 23529, 23541, 23551); Poquoson (23662); Portsmouth (23701-23705, 23707-23709); Suffolk (23432-23439); Virginia Beach (23450-23467, 23471, 23479).

COVA Care (Anthem BC/BS) with Medco Prescription coverage and Value Options Behavioral Health coverage will no longer be available to employees who live in the above Hampton Roads ZIP codes.

Employees enrolled in COVA Care who live in one of the ZIP codes and who take no action during open enrollment will automatically be enrolled in COVA Connect July 1, with the same optional features they currently have under COVA Care. Employees enrolled in COVA¡¦s high deductible health plan, HDHP, will remain in COVA HDHP or may enroll in COVA Connect.

Employees who do not live in one of the above ZIP codes will remain covered by COVA Care (Anthem BC/BS) or COVA HDHP. If they take no action during open enrollment, they will retain their current coverage.

The monthly premiums, co-pays, deductibles and co-insurance costs will remain the same after the switchover.

Details about COVA Connect (Optima) are available at www.optimahealth.com/COVA.

An Optima presentation, sponsored by the state's Health Benefits Office, will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, April 27, in the Webb Center River Rooms. Seating capacity is 100.

Monthly health care premiums will not change for employees enrolled in basic coverage; premiums will increase by between $1 and $5 per month for employees who have optional features (out of network, expanded dental, or expanded dental with vision and hearing).

Employees can use EmployeeDirect (the state's online health benefits system) to make changes to their health benefits and flexible reimbursement accounts, 24 hours a day, until the open enrollment period ends.

If employees need to change their contact information, and make changes to their address, e-mail or phone number, and update this information during open enrollment, the update will not take effect until July 1.

For more information, or to access EmployeeDirect, visit the Department of Human Resource Management Web site at www.dhrm.virginia.gov.

More information will follow as it becomes available. Employees recently received an e-mail from Gov. Tim Kaine about COVA Connect with a link to the "Spotlight on Your Benefits." Employees were scheduled to receive the "Spotlight" in the mail at their home, the week of April 20.
