Dr. Marlene DeMaio, an orthopedic surgeon at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, will give the Warren A. Stewart Lecture at Old Dominion University Wednesday, April 22.
Her talk, "Combating Aging in the Military: An Orthopedic Surgery Approach Through Exercise," begins at 4 p.m. in the River Rooms of Webb University Center. It is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served.
Sponsored by the Department of Exercise Science, Sport, Physical Education and Recreation, the lectureship is presented to emphasize the importance of wellness throughout the aging process and making changes in personal behavior with regard to diet and exercise.
The lectureship is funded by an annual gift from Warren A. Stewart, a Norfolk native, resident and ODU alumnus who retired as a school system superintendent and now serves as state president for AARP. Stewart is committed to the pursuit of wellness on both a personal and professional level.
