GSIS Co-hosts Discussion on Global Poverty and Health with Rep. Glenn Nye for World Health Day

Old Dominion University's Graduate Society for International Studies and the grassroots campaign and advocacy organization ONE are co-sponsoring a panel discussion on World Health Day, Tuesday, April 7, to discuss America's role in the fight against global poverty and preventable diseases like AIDS and malaria.

Panelists include Congressman Glenn Nye (D-Va.); Brig. Gen. Ron Sconyers, president of Physicians for Peace; David Earnest, assistant professor of political science; Matthew Bartlett, a ONE grassroots field organizer and trainer; and John Applebaugh, a ONE member and ODU graduate student.

The panelists will discuss the recent successes of America's development efforts, the connection between U.S. international development initiatives and U.S. security, and why continuing and strengthening these efforts should be an important foreign policy priority, especially as the global financial crisis is now hitting the world's poor.

The discussion, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 2 p.m. in the Board of Visitors Room in Webb University Center.
