CCPO Speaker to Discuss Antarctic Warming
Doug Martinson of the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory will present "Role of Ocean Heat in the Dramatic Climate Change on the Antarctic Peninsula" as part of the spring seminar series of Old Dominion University's Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography at 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 13.
The talk in CCPO's Room 3200 in the Innovation Research Park@ODU Building 1 will be preceded by a reception with refreshments beginning at 3 p.m. The seminars in the series are free and open to the public.
Martinson is a senior research scientist in the Division of Ocean and Climate Physics at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, which is a part of Columbia University's Earth Institute. His research focuses on the role of the polar oceans, particularly ocean-ice interactions, in global climate.
In the seminar he will present analysis of long-term data reflecting how changes in ocean temperature over the years is connected to unusually high wintertime atmospheric warming on the Antarctic Peninsula.
