ASCE Student Conference Attracts Nationally Renowned Speaker
Nationally renowned engineer Linda Figg will be the keynote speaker at Virginia's American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Conference this month in Virginia Beach.
Figg, president and CEO of Figg Engineering Group in Florida, is known nationwide for her expertise in bridge construction.
She will speak Friday, April 17, at the Virginia ASCE conference, which runs from April 16-18 at the Wyndham Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel.
Figg confirmed her attendance at the conference in a letter to Kathy Winborne, Old Dominion University's ASCE student chapter president, and Professor Gary Schafran, who is chair of the civil and environmental engineering department.
In the correspondence, Figg proposed that her talk be titled "Creating Bridges for the Future of America."
"Here at Figg, we are working diligently for the future of bridge design/construction. Our nation's infrastructure is a topic that is important to us all," Figg wrote.
The student conference features steel bridge and concrete canoe contests, as well as seminars on surveying and technical problem solving, and an Order of the Engineer ring ceremony.
