ODU to Host JMU Thursday in CollegeInsider.com Semifinal Game
Senior Jonathan Adams hit two three-point field goals in the last two minutes as the Monarchs defeated Belmont University 70-62 Monday night, advancing to the semifinals of the Collegeinsider.com Tournament. ODU (23-10) will meet CAA rival James Madison at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
ODU faculty and staff can purchase tickets for the game for only $5 (limit of two tickets per I.D.). Tickets may be purchased at the Constant Center box office from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today through Thursday, or at the ticket windows the night of the game. A valid faculty/staff University I.D. must be presented to receive the discount.
The winner of Thursday night's contest will advance to the CIT championship game on Tuesday, March 31.
Adams finished with 12 points, all in the second half. Gerald Lee led ODU with 14 points along with seven rebounds. Frank Hassell got his second double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 boards.
ODU dominated the boards, 49-38. Ben Finney hauled in nine rebounds, followed by Lee with seven.
ODU shot .382 (26-68) from the floor, while Belmont hit .367 (22-60). The Bruins, who were ranked third nationally in three-point field goals, went 12-38 (.316) from beyond the arc. ODU missed its first 11 three-pointers and finished 5-20 (.250).
The Monarchs last reached a postseason national semifinal game in 2006 when they advanced to Madison Square Garden in the NIT. Adams is the only player in the nation to have played in all four postseason events, the NCAA, NIT, CBI and now the CIT.
