ODU To Conduct Tornado Drill Tuesday, March 17

Old Dominion University's Department of Public Safety will conduct a tornado drill at approximately 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, in conjunction with the commonwealth of Virginia's Tornado Preparedness Day, sponsored by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management.

The tornado preparedness drill will affect the staff and occupants in the following buildings only:

  • Academic Skills Center
  • Writing Center
  • Human Resources II and III
  • Model U.N.
  • University Auditor
  • Governor's School for the Arts Administration
  • Virginia Tidewater Consortium
  • Public Safety

  • Facilities Management.

Building-emergency coordinators at each location will initiate emergency tornado preparedness procedures upon notification from public safety officials.

As a reminder, during a real tornado emergency, seek shelter in a building's basement or any other windowless interior room (closet, bathroom, interior hall) on the lowest level of a building. All members of the campus community are encouraged to review tornado preparedness plans at www.vaemergency.com.

For questions or more information, call ODU's Department of Public Safety at 683-4003.
