ODU Faculty to Perform in Final Norfolk Chamber Consort Concert March 30

The Norfolk Chamber Consort, directed by Old Dominion University associate professor of music Andrey Kasparov, will conclude its 40th anniversary season with "Bach and the Twentieth Century" at 8 p.m. Monday, March 30, in Chandler Recital Hall of the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center.

The program will open with a suite of songs and harpsichord pieces drawn from the famous "Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach." Singers Billye Brown Youmans, Lisa Coston, Kerry Jennings (ODU director of vocal activities) and Steve Kelley will all perform with Allen Shaffer, the Consort's artistic adviser, who will then perform Bach's "Concerto in D minor for harpsichord and Baroque strings."

Pianist Oksana Lutsyshyn will open the 20th-century half of the program with Luigi Dallapiccola's "Quaderno musicali di Annalibera," inspired by Bach's "Notebook." Kasparov will then be the piano soloist for "Concert Music for Piano, Brass and Two Harps" by Paul Hindemith, conducted by Dennis Zeisler, professor of music at ODU.

Other ODU faculty performers include Mike Hall, assistant professor of music, on trombone, and adjunct faculty Steve Carlson (trumpet) and Marlene Ford (horn).

Shaffer will give a preconcert lecture at 7:45 p.m. A reception in the Diehn Center atrium will follow the concert. Tickets are $20 for general and $8 for students. Parking is available in the new Garage E at the corner of 49th Street and Bluestone Avenue.
