Award-winning Speaker to Address Topic of Spanking Children at ISOC Lecture March 18

Murray Strauss, sociology professor and co-director of the Family Research Laboratory at the University of New Hampshire, will present a talk on "Spanking and How It Affects Children Worldwide" Wednesday, March 18 at 7:15 p.m. in room 224 of Kaufman Hall at Old Dominion University.

Strauss will discuss corporal punishment of children, why it is ineffective, and the long-term effects it can have on children, including symptoms of post-traumatic stress. He is the author of over 200 articles and many books, including his most recent title currently in press, "The Primordial Violence: Corporal Punishment by Parents, Cognitive Development, & Crime."

Strauss is the 2008 recipient of the Award for Distinguished Lifetime Contributions to Research on Aggression from the International Society for Research on Aggression. More information about his research can be found at http://pubpages.unh.edu/~mas2/
