University of Maryland Researcher Presenting CCPO Seminar on Zooplankton
James Pierson, a postdoctoral researcher with the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES), will present his research findings about zooplankton feeding behavior in the Spring Seminar Series of Old Dominion University's Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography (CCPO) at 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 2.
The talk in CCPO's Room 3200 in the Innovation Research Park@ODU Building 1 will be preceded by a reception with refreshments beginning at 3 p.m. The seminars in the series are free and open to the public.
The topic of Pierson's presentation is "Observing and Quantifying the Foraging Behavior of Individual Zooplankton In Situ and In Silico." He has found that zooplankton that conduct certain nighttime feeding forays seems to obtain a significant fitness advantage. The findings could help to predict zooplankton distribution.
