Theatre, Music & Dance Departments Join Local Schools to Present "Hansel & Gretel, The Opera"

Old Dominion University presents German composer Engelbert Humperdinck's "Hansel & Gretel, the Opera," the beloved tale of Hansel and Gretel's thrilling venture into the enchanted forest and their encounter with mystical characters such as the Sandman, angelic fairies and the evil witch.

A collaborative effort of ODU's theatre, music and dance departments, "Hansel & Gretel, the Opera" also features local talent, including 32 choir members from neighboring Granby, Taylor, Blair and Ghent elementary schools.

Performances begin at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28.

Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students, and may be purchased at the Arts and Letters box office, located in the lobby of the University Theatre, or by calling 683-5305. Tickets are also available at the door one hour before each performance.

University Theatre is located on Hampton Boulevard between 46th and 47th streets. Free parking is available in the 45th Street garage.
