ODU Commended as Host of NATO International Study Group

Old Dominion University acting President John Broderick received a letter of appreciation from Troels Froling, secretary general of the Brussels-based Atlantic Treaty Association (ATA), during an international summit on the future of NATO hosted by ODU on Feb. 21.

"On behalf of the ATA, I would like to extend my gratitude and thanks for the contact established and the hospitality shown to our Strategic Concept Study Group during our working visit at Old Dominion University," the letter stated.

"Our visit…gave us an opportunity to engage with experts, researchers and academics from the private, military and public sectors and will undoubtedly go a long way in helping us in our effort of identifying global challenges and how NATO should evolve to meet those challenges. We look forward to continuing our newly established partnership with the Old Dominion University."

The ATA is a facilitator organization that brings together political leaders, academics and diplomats to further the values set forth in the North Atlantic Treaty. Several ODU faculty members participated in the summit, including James V. Koch, president emeritus and Board of Visitors Professor of Economics; Adrian Gheorghe, the Batten Endowed Chair in System of Systems Engineering; and Regina Karp, associate professor of political science and international studies.

The study group also visited the Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) in Norfolk on Feb. 20.
