CCPO's Hofmann Presenting Seminar on Oyster Parasites and Climate Change

Is climate change modifying interactions between Eastern United States oysters and the lethal parasites that sometimes attack them? This question will be discussed by Eileen Hofmann, Old Dominion University professor of ocean, earth and atmospheric sciences, at a seminar of the university's Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography (CCPO) at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9.

Hofmann's presentation, which is free and open to the public, is titled "Understanding Disease Resistance in Estuarine Populations and Response to Climate Change." The seminar is free and open to the public.

Researchers at ODU, as well as Rutgers University and the University of Southern California, are participating in a National Science Foundation Ecology of Infectious Diseases project. Hofmann's presentation will focus on oysters and conditions in the Delaware Bay, but the results of this research also can be applied to the Chesapeake Bay.

A 3 p.m. reception will be in the CCPO facility's lounge on the 3rd floor of the Innovation Research Park @ ODU Building in University Village. The seminar will follow in the facility's Room 3200.
