Wallops Island site to benefit from NASA contract
(The Virginian-Pilot, Dec. 25, 2008)
A $1.9 billion NASA contract to a Northern Virginia space technology company will boost business on the Eastern Shore, too.
The contract will go to Orbital Sciences Corp. of Dulles to fly eight cargo missions, between 2011 and 2015, to the international space station. All will be launched from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport on Wallops Island, said Gordon Hickey, a spokesman for Gov. Timothy M. Kaine
The spaceport is a cooperative venture, involving the states of Virginia and Maryland and Old Dominion University. Billie Reed, its director, could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
