Investment in Suffolk modeling and simulation center will keep paying off
(Editorial, Daily Press, Dec. 31, 2008)
While Gov. Tim Kaine is re-tooling the state's budget to reflect economic realities through cuts, cuts and more cuts, many of them in what once seemed vital and essential services, his commitment to funding Old Dominion University's Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center in Suffolk shows an admirable regard for the long economic view. Maintaining VMASC shows a willingness to distinguish between the short-term necessity of cost-cutting and the long-term investment in an expanding opportunity that will deliver returns well after Kaine has left the governor's mansion.
