APPOINTMENTS/ELECTIONS

KAREN SANZO CRUM, assistant professor of educational leadership, elected to serve as associate editor for the Learning and Teaching in Educational Leadership Special Interest Group newsletter.

CYNTHIA JONES, eminent scholar and professor of ocean, earth and atmospheric sciences, elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The honor was for "distinguished contributions in marine fisheries ecology, especially development of analytical tools to evaluate stock structure, population dynamics and life-history strategies."

AWARDS

PETER SCHULMAN, associate professor of French and international studies, awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Palmes Academiques from the French government for his continued involvement in French culture and academic achievement.

JOHN ADAM, University Professor of mathematics, "Noticing Mathematical Patterns in Nature" as a featured speaker at the National Institute for Learning Development 2009 Northeast Regional Conference in Lancaster, Pa. Also, a workshop for teachers at the conference, titled "Guesstimation: 'Ballpark' Numbers, the Geometric Mean and the Goldilocks Principle."

ANDREAS TOLK, associate professor of engineering management and systems engineering, "New M&S Challenges Derived from the NATO Research & Technology Organization (RTO) Systems Analysis Studies (SAS-071) Task Group on Analytical Tools for Irregular Warfare" at the Winter Simulation Conference in Austin, Texas. Also at the conference, with R.B. Garrett (lead author) and T.J. Bacon, "Exploring Effective Methods for Modeling a Comprehensive Approach to Political, Military, Economic, Social, Information, and Infrastructure (PMESII) / Human, Cultural, Social, Behavior (HSCB) Community of Interest (COI)."
