Opera Maestro Offers Master Class Today
In connection with their current production of Puccini's "Tosca," Virginia Opera maestro Peter Mark will give a free master class for vocalists at 3 p.m. today in the Diehn Center for Fine and Performing Arts at Old Dominion University.
Mark is the founding general and artistic director of Virginia Opera and of International Opera Alliance. He also is an international opera coach, masterclass teacher and conductor.
Old Dominion University's music department will present three operatic works this semester. "Hansel & Gretel, The Opera," written by Engelbert Humperdink, is a collaborative production with the theatre and dance departments. This classic fairy tale of two children sent by their angry mother into the woods, and who become lost and are captured by an evil witch, will be performed at the University Theatre Feb. 19-21 and Feb. 26-28 at 8 p.m.
"Letter to Warsaw" and "Cosi fan tuti" will be presented in April.
