Exhibit by Iranian Sculptor at Gordon Galleries

"Echomaker," an art show by Iranian-born sculptor Tannaz Farsi, is now on display in the Changing Gallery at Old Dominion University's Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries. The exhibit, curated by John Roth, assistant professor of art, runs until March 8.

Farsi uses a combination of inflated vinyl, tubing, air, LED lights, steel, Plexiglas, cast plastic, pulleys and video projections to create sculptures that examine the fluid nature of identity and its dependence on environment.

Originally from Iran and dislocated from her home country, Farsi is driven to examine the fluid nature of identity and its dependence on any particular environment. She achieves this partly by combining elements of the internal and external, and the analytical and emotive, while focusing on the relationship of the viewer and the work. She also combines these materials to explore the invisible function of infrastructures in society and how the body subliminally interacts with them.

Admission to the Gordon Galleries, located at 4509 Monarch Way in the University Village, is free. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
