ODU's Hargrave to Lead Molecular Medicine Seminar

Barbara Hargrave, associate professor of biological sciences at Old Dominion University, will speak in the ODU Center for Molecular Medicine seminar series at noon Friday, Dec. 5, in the first floor auditorium of the E.V. Williams Engineering and Computational Sciences Building.

Hargrave, who also is an adjunct faculty member at the Eastern Virginia Medical School, will speak on "A Novel Approach for Wound Healing: Platelet Activation Using Nanosecond Pulse Electric Fields."

The Center for Molecular Medicine seminars are free and open to the public. Christopher Osgood, associate director of the center and associate dean of the ODU College of Sciences, is the seminar series organizer. Chris Platsoucas, dean of the College of Sciences, is director of the center.

Research that Hargrave will present was promoted by an $80,000 seed grant she received in 2006 from the ODU Office of Research. She led a team investigating the use of bioelectrics for wound healing that included researchers from ODU's Frank Reidy Research Center for Bioelectrics. She has published research findings together with Karl Schoenbach, the ODU Batten Endowed Chair in bioelectrics engineering, who founded the Reidy Center.
