Football Student Athlete Killed in Auto Accident

Osric Robinson, a junior linebacker on the Old Dominion University football team, was killed late Friday night in an automobile accident near his home in Alma, GA.

Robinson, who transferred to Old Dominion this fall after playing two years at Ferrum College, was selected to the ODU team following the Sept. 11 tryouts. He was a four-year letterman at Bacon County High School in Georgia, lettering in football, basketball and track.

"The Old Dominion football family and University are deeply saddened by the loss of Osric Robinson," says Head Football Coach Bobby Wilder. "He was an outstanding young man who transferred to ODU and had fulfilled his dream of making our first football team. His loss will be felt by all of his teammates and our thoughts and prayers go out to his parents and family members."

As a high school player, Robinson earned first team All Area and All Region honors as a defensive back, catching 30 passes for 500 yards his senior year. At Ferrum College, Robinson recorded 30 tackles at the linebacker slot, along with two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.
