Batten College Hosts First LEGO TOURNMENT
Student teams from across Hampton Roads took over Webb Center on Saturday, November 8 for the annual Norfolk Regional FIRST LEGO League Tournament. Teams of elementary and middle school students challenged their math and science skills in building a robot using LEGO technology that would perform various challenges. This year's theme, Climate Connections, included challenges related to exploration of the earth's climate, such as turning off lights and insulating a house. Teams also received scores for teamwork, robot design and a research project presentation related to the climate theme. Four participating teams qualified to compete in the State Championship Tournament at James Madison University on December 6 and 7, 2008. The event was hosted by the Batten College of Engineering and Technology and WHRO with the assistance of over sixty engineering student volunteers and local educators.
