Veterans Day Ceremony will be Nov. 11 on Kaufman Mall
Old Dominion University will hold a Veterans Day ceremony from 12:30-1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, on Kaufman Mall.
Navy Lt. Jason Redman, a 2004 ODU graduate who was severely wounded in combat last October while serving in Iraq, will give the keynote remarks. Redman is still recovering from his injuries and has become well known throughout the military and around the country for his heroism, patriotism and personal support of the "Wounded Warriors" program.
His personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, Purple Heart, Joint Service Achievement Medal, five Navy Achievement Medals and two Combat Action Ribbons.
Nancy Klein, associate professor of music, will sing the national anthem at the ceremony, which will include the laying of a wreath on the university's Alumni War Memorial plaque.
Army and Navy ROTC students will participate in "Old Glory," a ritual where each cadet and midshipman passes a folded flag to the next.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to the North Mall of Webb University Center.
ODU students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend this brief observance and support one of their own. Those who attend are asked to respect the event by maintaining quiet in the vicinity of Kaufman Mall.
