Two Visiting Lecturers Coming This Week for CCPO Seminar Series
Old Dominion University's Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography will present two lectures this week in its fall seminar series, both focusing on how we interpret changes in ocean environments.
On Monday, Nov. 17, at 3:30 p.m., the speaker will be Enrique Curchitser from the Rutgers University Institute of Marine and Coastal Studies. On Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 12:30 p.m., the speaker will be Baris Salihoglu of the Institute of Marine Sciences at the Middle East Technical University in Turkey.
Both seminars will be in Room 3200 of the Innovation Research Park@ODU building, and they are free and open to the public.
Curchitser will describe his role in a project to incorporate high-resolution regional ocean circulation models into large-scale climate simulations. The work promises to improve the outcomes of climate research. A reception with refreshments at 3 p.m. will precede his lecture.
Salihoglu will discuss research of the processes that resulted in a collapse of the anchovy fisher y in the Black Sea. This sea is an interesting case study of how human- and climate-produced effects can combine to shift a marine system from one state to another. Salihoglu received his Ph.D. from ODU.
