Professor Sacharia Albin presents invited talk at the Electrochemical Society Meeting

Professor Albin presented an invited talk entitled "Tungsten oxide nanorods: synthesis and properties" at the Joint International Meeting, 214th Meeting of the Electrochemical Society and 2008 Fall Meeting of The Electrochemical Society of Japan (ECSJ) Honolulu, Hawaii - October 12-17, 2008. Tungsten oxide is a potential catalyst in splitting water using sunlight. Professor Albin's research is on making defect free nanorods that are 10nm in diameter.

Co-authors of the presentation are his PhD students Bing Xiao, Makhin Thitsa, and Pat Boland. PhD student Makhin Thitsa presented two papers at the same conference. "Multiple Defect Modes in Diamond Photonic Crystal" by M. Thitsa and S. Albin, and "Enhanced photonic band gap and defect structure of diamond based photonic crystals using ALD hafnium oxide coating" M. Thitsa, D. Gu, H. Baumgart and S. Albin. Makhin Thitsa was awarded travel grants by the ECS to present her papers. Albin's research group is exploring ways to control flow of light using special materials and structures called "Photonic Crystals".
