ODU's Diehn Concert Series Features Countertenor Brian Asawa Tonight

Countertenor Brian Asawa, accompanied by Victoria Kirsch, will perform an evening of music for Old Dominion University's Diehn Concert Series at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, in Chandler Recital Hall of the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center.

Asawa's performance, "Swans Upon the Water, Voices in the Autumn Sky at Night," will include works by Scarlatti, Gibbons, Purcell, Schubert, Hahn, Fauré, Debussy, Ives, Barber, Copland and others. Considered to be at the forefront of the current generation of countertenors, Asawa has appeared with most of the world's leading baroque conductors, including William Christie, Christopher Hogwood, Nicholas McGeegan, John Nelson, Marc Minkowski and Christophe Rousset. He has appeared at the Royal Opera House and Covent Garden, and with the San Francisco, Metropolitan, Cologne and Netherlands operas.

Asawa also will give a master class at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, in Chandler Recital Hall. The master class is free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tickets for the Diehn Concert performance, $15 for general admission and $10 for ODU students, are available in advance at the Arts and Letters Box Office in the lobby of University Theatre, located on Hampton Boulevard between 46th and 47th streets, or by calling 683-5305. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

Parking for the concert is available in the Lot 26 VIP, adjacent to the Diehn Center on 49th Street, and in Garage B on 43rd Street. Shuttle buses from the garage to the center will be available.

The F. Ludwig Diehn Concert Series is supported by a grant from the Diehn Fund of The Norfolk Foundation.
