ODU Faculty Tapped to Talk Economics and Politics on "HearSay"

From the economic state of the region to political humor, from the importance of fact checking to international relations, Old Dominion University faculty were tapped to offer their expertise this week and last for WHRV-FM's (89.5) midday talk show, "HearSay with Cathy Lewis."

This Thursday, Oct. 9, former Congressman and ODU Kaufman Lecturer in Public Affairs G. William Whitehurst will join Sen. John Warner as guests on the "Virginia Senate Race" program. Warner will deliver the Waldo Family Lecture on International Relations at ODU later that evening.

Joyce Hoffmann, associate professor of journalism at ODU and the public editor of The Virginian-Pilot, was the invited guest Monday, Oct. 6, to discuss bias and fact checking as they relate to the presidential campaign on the "From the Headlines: That's a Fact?" program.

On Wednesday, Oct. 1, James V. Koch, ODU President Emeritus and Board of Visitors Professor of Economics, addressed the economic situation of the Hampton Roads region and the newly published State of the Region report, compiled annually by the university's Regional Studies Institute.

Jeffrey Jones, associate professor of communication, discussed the role of comedy on the campaign trail during the "Happy Trails" program, Thursday, Oct. 2. Jones is the author of two forthcoming books, "Satire TV: Politics and Comedy in the Post-Network Era" and a second edition of "Entertaining Politics: Comedy Television and Political Engagement."
