Grand Opening of Foundation House Today
Old Dominion University will hold a formal opening ceremony today at 2:30 p.m. for its new Foundation House, a unique, cooperative living option for academically talented female Virginia residents. Located at 1018 49th Street, the Foundation House will be open today for a reception and tours following the ceremony.
Parking is available in Garage "C" on the corner of Hampton Boulevard and 43rd Street. A shuttle from the garage to the Foundation House will be provided.
Funded by the Virginia Business and Professional Women's Foundation and the only facility of its kind on a Virginia university campus, the residence is designed to be a place in which the selected women can form a small, close-knit community where teamwork and personal development beyond the classroom is valued.
Over the years the Virginia BPW Foundation has provided more than $300,000 in financial aid in the form of scholarships, fellowships, grants and awards to over 300 recipients. With the completion of the Foundation House, the Virginia BPW Foundation and ODU have in place a perpetual scholarship for nine women a year.
