Sweeney Discusses Massive Resistance On "With Good Reason" Sept. 25

James Sweeney, associate professor of history at Old Dominion University, will be a guest on the "With Good Reason" radio program Thursday, Sept. 25, to discuss his book "Race, Reason, and Massive Resistance: The Diary of David J. Mays, 1954-1959" in anticipation of the 50th anniversary of the closing of the Norfolk schools this Saturday.

The program, "Massive Resistance in Virginia," considers the roles played by various individuals during the civil rights movement, including Mays, civic leaders in Norfolk, and Oliver W. Hill, an attorney who argued the landmark case of Brown vs. the Board of Education before the Supreme Court.

"With Good Reason" is produced for the Virginia Higher Education Broadcasting Consortium by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and is broadcast in partnership with public radio stations in Virginia and Washington, D.C. The program will be broadcast on WHRV (89.5 FM) at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, and can be heard at www.withgoodreasonradio.org.
