SATURDAY CLASSES CANCELLED

Old Dominion University officials have cancelled Saturday classes in anticipation of the rain, winds and tidal flooding expected from Tropical Storm Hanna.

The storm is projected to move across the Hampton Roads region around mid-day Saturday, bringing heavy downpours, thunderstorms, winds of 40-60 mph, and minor tidal flooding at high tide.

The university's residence halls will remain open for students.  On Saturday, a continental breakfast will be served in the lobbies of all residence halls with mandatory meal programs so that students do not have to go out in the storm.  The dining center at Cafe 1201 will open at 4 p.m. for dinner service.

Students residing at the Sheraton Hotel will be provided brunch and dinner at the hotel.

Students who live off campus but would prefer to be in a campus building during the storm may park their cars in the university garages and stay in Webb Center Saturday.

Students and faculty/staff who normally park in the areas around Rogers and Gresham Halls are being asked to move their vehicles to one of the university's parking garages by noon Friday to avoid damage from likely flooding of those parking lots.

Any campus emergencies should be reported to campus police by calling 683-4000.  Parents and others with questions or concerns should call the campus information center at 683-5914.

In addition to the cancellation of Saturday classes, the university library and all other offices except for Public Safety will be closed.

Campus officials expect to resume normal operations on Sunday and classes to begin at their normal time on Monday.
