ODU Undergraduate Research Grant Program Accepting Proposals Through Nov. 3

Students from all disciplines are invited to submit proposals for Old Dominion University's spring 2009 Undergraduate Research Grant Program. This program provides funds to students who wish to pursue original research, scholarship or creative work under the supervision of a full-time faculty member. It is an excellent opportunity for students to pursue an interest sparked in one of their classes or to begin a project leading to a senior honors thesis.

The award stipend will be $1,000 (subject to tax withholding) for the spring 2009 semester. The award may be renewed up to $500 when justified by a written request and a budget proposal.

"In the past, this program has been very popular with students who are planning to pursue graduate studies," said David Metzger, dean of the Honors College. "Past funded projects are wide-ranging and representative of Old Dominion's commitment to use research as a tool for learning."

The program has funded projects that represent a variety of interests, including"An Interference Analysis of Software Radio on Wireless Sensor Networks," "Nest Site Selection in Temnothorax Ants" and "The Contrastive Rhetorics of W.E.B. Dubois and Booker T. Washington."

Juniors and seniors with a minimum 3.25 GPA are encouraged to submit a proposal; students must have completed 58 credit hoursand must be enrolled for at least 12 hours during the semester in which the project is funded. The deadline for proposals is Nov. 3, 2008.

A complete description of the application procedure and eligibility requirements is available on the Honors College Web site.
