ODU Safety Alert
Around midnight Wednesday, Sept. 24, four Old Dominion University students were robbed at gunpoint in the vicinity of 49th Street and Killam Avenue.
About 10 minutes later, there was a home invasion and attempted sexual assault near 48th Street and Killam Avenue. One of the victims was shot in the leg as the suspects escaped.
In both incidents, the suspects were described as two black males, approximately 17-20 years of age, driving a small white car, possibly a Ford Escort or a Toyota Corolla, according to police.
Norfolk police are leading the investigation with assistance from Old Dominion University police. Norfolk police have assigned additional units to patrol the ODU campus and the surrounding area until further notice.
Police recommend that the campus community keep your car and house doors locked, and do not answer the door unless you know the person knocking. If you see any suspicious person or activities, call the Old Dominion police immediately at 683-4000.
Town hall meetings will be held today at 12:30 in the Board of Visitors Room in Webb University Center and at 7 p.m. in room 102 of the Mills Godwin Life Sciences Building. There will be additional meetings in the residence halls beginning this evening. Students are urged to attend to discuss concerns and safety precautions.
Additionally, students who live off-campus in the areas where these incidents are occurring and who are concerned, can contact the Office of Student Housing at 683-4283 about temporary quarters.
