New Civil Engineering Faculty

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) and the Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center (VMASC) at ODU are pleased to announce the hiring of Mecit Cetin as an assistant professor of transportation engineering. In the CEE department, Cetin will be involved with educational and research efforts to strengthen the transportation curriculum; and at VMASC he will work on research projects involving modeling and simulation of transportation systems.

Prior to joining ODU, Cetin worked as an assistant professor for four years at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Cetin has published more than 20 peer-reviewed journal papers and conference proceedings, and has been conducting research in the areas of modeling and simulation of traffic operations, congestion pricing, freight transportation, advanced traveler information systems, traffic signal control, probe vehicle technologies, and system state estimation in transportation networks. Cetin has also been recently awarded a project by Oregon Transportation Research and Education

Consortium (OTREC) to conduct research on new vehicle re-identification algorithms to estimate the flow patterns of truck traffic to give a better overall picture of origin-destination flows, empty truck movements, and reliability of travel times. Cetin has a master of science degree in civil engineering and a Ph.D. in transportation engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.
