Doukas' Study on Investor Behavior Cited In New Yorker Article
An article in the Aug. 29 issue of The New Yorker cites the research of John Doukas, professor of finance and eminent scholar at Old Dominion University.
The article titled "That Uncertain Feeling", written by James Surowiecki, discusses the behavior of stock market investors in the context of a volatile and uncertain market.
The article cites a study co-authored by Doukas with fellow business professor Itzhak Ben-David that followed the patterns of institutional investors over 20 years of trading. The study showed that when there is a large amount of "ambiguous information" about stocks, investors are more inclined to trade and are more likely to end up losing on their trades.
Doukas is also managing editor of the European Financial Management Journal, whichpublishes research from around the world regarding the financial management of European corporations and financial institutions.He is also the founder and a past president of the European Financial Management Association. He is the editor of the European Finance Abstracts Journal, a Financial Economics Network publication, of Social Science Electronic Publishing Inc. and Social Science Research Network. He has published seven books and is co-editor of the JAI Press Annual Research Series in International Business and Finance.
Doukas earned his doctorate in financial economics at Stern School of Business, New York University. He is also a Distinguished Senior Research Fellow in Finance at the Cardiff School of Business in the United Kingdom. His research interests are in the areas of corporate finance, international financial management, foreign investments, foreign exchange markets and international asset pricing.
Doukas is the W. Spong Chair in Finance in the College of Business and Public Administration and a previous winner of the ODU Faculty Research Achievement Award.
