Beta Alpha Psi Achieves Superior Status

ODU's chapter of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) has won Superior Status for the second year in a row. Beta Alpha Psi is an honorary organization for financial information students and professionals whose primary objective is to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field. This includes promoting the study and practice of accounting, finance and information systems; providing opportunities for self-development, service and association among members and practicing professionals and encouraging a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibility.

To achieve Superior Status, a chapter must participate at the highest level in a series of activities, which are divided into categories including: budget planning, initiations, professional programs, involvement in campus activities, community service and the creation of an annual year-end report. Members must also attend chapter, regional and annual meetings, socials and recruiting events.

In addition to fulfilling the requirements related to business information, the ODU chapter of Beta Alpha Psi participated in a community service activity while attending the annual conference in Anaheim, California. Chapter members (pictured above, from left:  Ryan Kavanaugh, Nick Richey and Tara Brooks) volunteered to clear out undergrowth at an abandoned borrow pit being converted into a park for the City of Anaheim. The annual conference was held in August during which time ODU's BAP chapter received its Superior Status.

Randall R. Spurrier, a lecturer in Accounting in the College of Business and Public Administration is the faculty advisor for ODU's chapter of Beta Alpha Psi.

Beta Alpha Psi was founded in 1919 and currently has more than 260 chapters with 9,000 active members.
