Award-winning Documentary, "As We Forgive," to Be Screened at ODU Friday
The Old Dominion University women's studies department will present the first local screening of "As We Forgive," winner of the 2008 Gold Student Academy Award for Best Documentary, in the Mills Godwin Jr. Building auditorium at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19. A panel discussion with the filmmaker, Laura Waters Hinson, will follow the screening.
"As We Forgive" introduces viewers to two Rwandan women who survived their country's genocide and come face to face with the men who slaughtered their families. Narrated by Mia Farrow and the director, the documentary explores central questions of reconciliation, justice and peace building.
In addition to the on-campus screening, the film will be shown at the Naro Expanded Cinema, 1507 Colley Ave., Norfolk, at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20. Both screenings are free and open to the public. Free parking for the ODU screening is available in Garage B (next to the Godwin Building) on 43rd Street.
