University College to Host Lecture, Forum On Student Success Today

Joe Cuseo, professor of psychology at Marymount College in California, will give a lecture and open forum for faculty, staff and students today from 3-5 p.m. at the Ted Constant Convocation Center.

The program, "Changing the Culture for Student Success: Faculty, Staff and Students Working Together," is part of the University College lecture series. Cuseo, who holds a doctorate in educational psychology and assessment from the University of Iowa, has directed the first-year seminar at Marymount College, a required course for new students, for more than 25 years.

He has been a member of the advisory board to the National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition, and has received the center's Outstanding First-Year Advocate award. He is also a 13-time winner of the Faculty Member of the Year award on his home campus, which is based on student vote.

In addition, Cuseo has written numerous articles, chapters and monographs on the first-year experience, student success, effective teaching and academic advising. He is the author of the text, "Thriving in College & Beyond: Research-Based Strategies for Academic Success and Personal Development," and he is currently co-writing a book on diversity and the college experience.
