Nguyen Awarded NSF Grant to Support Course in Civil Engineering Computation
Duc T. Nguyen, professor of civil and environmental engineering at Old Dominion University, has received a sub-contract grant worth $500,000 from the National Science Foundation for a project titled "Holistic Numerical Methods: Unabridged."
The project is closely related to Nguyen's Civil Engineering Computation course, which is offered every fall semester, and will provide seed money to develop textbook lecture notes, PowerPoint presentations, computer software, real-life (cross-discipline) engineering applications, multiple-choice questions for students and video-recorded lectures in numerical methods.
The grant, which runs from June 1, 2008, through December 2010, is administered by a multi-university consortium led by Autar Kaw, professor of mechanical engineering at the University of South Florida.
