Percussion Camp Closes with Concert
The closing concert for the Old Dominion University Community Music Division's 8th annual percussion camp was held Friday evening, July 11, in the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Center.
Nine students from area high schools participated in this year's camp, which ran from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 7-11. Matthew Forni (pictured here during last summer's camp), of Bayside High School in Virginia Beach, returned again this year and also participated in the CMD's Hampton Roads Youth Wind Ensemble in June.
David Walker, director of the percussion camp, is an ODU adjunct professor of percussion and a percussion instructor for the Governor's School for the Arts. He regularly performs with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and Richmond Symphony. Corey McCormick, a recent ODU graduate, served as the steel drum instructor for the second year.
