International Scholar from Korea visits EMSE and VMASC
Lieutenant Commander Young Cheon Jang (Navy of the Republic of Korea) is pursuing his Ph.D. at the Ajou University in Suwon, Korea. He is interested in net-centric applications and modeling and simulation in support of command and control. His research led him to proceeding and journal papers authored by researchers of Old Dominion University. He therefore made contact in February 2008 to find out if he can spend six months as an international scholar at the Virginia Modeling and Simulation Center. The department for Engineering Management and Systems Engineering that only recently did stand up a modeling and simulation working group, agreed to sponsor this academic exchange effort between Old Dominion and Ajou University. Thanks to the rapid support of the International Student and Scholar Services and support of their counterparts in Korea, LtCdr Yang arrived in Norfolk on June 29. He is currently getting settled into his office at VMASC. Dr. Andreas Tolk will be his mentor for the next months. Beside doing research and collaborating with the research team mentored by Dr. Tolk, LtCdr Yang will also visit some MSIM courses. If this exchange works well, Old Dominion and Ajou University hope for more events like this in the future.
