49th Street Phase II Update

Commencement of the Phase II utility work and closures of 49th Street will be delayed until the morning of Friday, June 13. During this phase of construction and utility work, 49th Street will be closed from the western entrance of Lot 8 (second entrance away from the alumni center) to Bluestone Avenue. Bluestone also will be closed during this time.

The duration of this closure will be approximately 35 days.

Lots 8 and 5 will be accessible from Hampton Boulevard and from the east end of 49th Street during this second phase of construction by using the Lot 8 entrance next to the alumni center. It should be noted that once utility work is complete this will be the only entrance to Lots 5 and 8 off of 49th Street. In reconfiguring and expanding Lot 8, the existing second entrance to Lot 8 and the access road to Lot 5 will be eliminated.

Vehicles bound for Lot 5 will be able to access it via a new passage that will be cut through the sidewalk in the northwest corner of Lot 8. The graphic labeled "Parking Lots 5 and 8 During Phase II Utility Work" shows the new permanent entrance to Lot 5, the temporary entrance, which will be in place while the permanent entrance is constructed, and traffic flow through Lot 8. Please note that the temporary entrance to Lot 5 will be single lane. This construction is expected to take approximately three weeks, so during this period personnel entering and exiting Lot 5 must exercise extreme caution. The new entrance will be two lanes.

The graphic also shows that a portion of Lot 8 on the west side of the existing traffic island will be closed to parking while utilities are brought across the island and work is done to reconfigure the parking lot. These parking spots will be made available again in approximately three weeks.
