Deputy director to succeed boss on planning commission
One of the region's more familiar voices on transportation policy has been selected to lead the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission. Dwight L. Farmer, the deputy executive director of transportation and emergency planning for the commission, will become its new executive director. He succeeds Arthur L. Collins, who worked for the commission for 38 years before retiring on May 1.
A Virginia native, Farmer has worked for the commission since 1978. He has a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech and a master's in civil engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. He also serves as an adjunct associate professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Old Dominion University.
