Daughter of ODU Professors Named to Olympic Soccer Team

Angela Hucles, daughter of Old Dominion University faculty members Janis Sanchez-Hucles, professor of psychology and department chair, and Michael Hucles, associate professor of history, was named June 23 to the U.S. women's soccer team that will compete in the Summer Olympics in Beijing.

Just three days earlier in South Korea, Hucles scored the goal that gave the U.S. women's national team a 1-0 victory over Canada in the title match of the 2008 Peace Queen Cup. Hucles won the Golden Ball as the most valuable player in the Peace Cup competition.

In May, Hucles also scored the winning goal in the national team's 5-4 win over Australia in a friendly match played in Alabama. She has scored a total of seven goals in 84 national team appearances.

The U.S. women's team will play its first Olympics match on Aug. 6.
