Broadcast Academy Students Visit ODU
This week, Old Dominion University will be one of the sites for the Urban League of Hampton Roads & Cox Communications Broadcast Academy. The course, which runs from June 23-27, will introduce students ages 14-16 to the basics of television broadcasting production.
Highlights of the course include a field trip to a local network television production facility and hands-on experience as the crew for a broadcast production. According to Ann Grandy, executive director of the Old Dominion University Community Development Corporation, 20 teens have signed up for the class and this marks the first time the university has hosted an Urban League summer event.
Local media guest speakers this week include Derick Rose and Don Roberts of WAVY-TV and Laila Muhammad and Jummy Olabanji of WTKR-TV. Students will participate in learning activities on both the ODU and Norfolk State University campuses.
