49th Street Closure Update

Beginning today, 49th Street will be partially closed for the installation of utilities to support construction of the Foreman Field game-day building and parking garage.

The construction and closure will last anywhere from 10 to 20 days.

The closure will begin at 49th Street and Hampton Boulevard to the eastern entrance to Parking Lot 8 (next to the Kornblau Alumni Center). With the exception of construction vehicles, no turns will be allowed from Hampton Boulevard onto that section of 49th Street during this time, and cars traveling west on 49th Street will not be able to drive across Hampton Boulevard.  (See yellow highlighted area on map.)

Parking Lot 8 and Lot 5, at the south end of Rollins Hall, will be accessible by turning onto 49th Street from either Elkhorn or Powhatan avenues, heading in the direction of Hampton Boulevard.

The western entrance to Lot 8 is currently marked "Exit Only," but that sign will be removed to allow access to two-way traffic.

Following completion of the first phase of construction and utility work, 49th Street will be closed from the western entrance of Lot 8 (second entrance away from the alumni center) to Bluestone Avenue. Bluestone also will be closed during this time. (See purple highlighted area on map.)

The duration of this closure will be approximately 35 days.

Lots 8 and 5 by will be accessible from Hampton Boulevard and from the east end of 49th Street during this second phase of construction by using the Lot 8 entrance next to the alumni center.

Vehicles bound for Lot 5 will be able to access it via a new passage that will be cut through the sidewalk in the northwest corner of Lot 8. There will be signage in Lot 8 to direct traffic.

There will be no significant effect on the number of parking spaces available during these closures. All meters have been removed from Lot 8 to create more parking spaces for faculty and staff.
