Mahzad BastaniNejad, a Mechanical Engineering student working with Dr. Elmustafa was awarded a travel grant by the European Physical Society Accelerator Group (EPS-AG) to attend EPAC'08 in Genoa, Italy.

ODU competed in the AIAA Student Paper competition, hosted this year by the University of Maryland, April 11-12.  Seven graduate students attended, with two competition presentations, by Hariharan Gopalakrishnan and Sriharsha Valiveti. Sinan Yalcin also made an "exhibition" presentation.  "Hari" took second place in the graduate competition for his paper entitled "Computational Investigation of the Sonic Boom Focusing Problem".  The event will be hosted by ODU next year.

Jennifer Grimsley was awarded the REAR ADMIRAL GEORGE W. MELVILLE AWARD which recognizes outstanding engineering contributions in the application of knowledge toward the research and development of materials, devices, and systems or methods; including design, development, and integration of prototypes and new processes by the Carderock Division.
