ODU Launches Mobile Monarch Notebook Computer Program
Bringing a computer to college seems like a given these days. But with universities offering wireless Internet connections and other services, students are compelled to make sure their computers are up to the technological task. Old Dominion University has created the Mobile Monarch Notebook Program to help students ensure they are equipped with computers tailored to their needs and that meet the minimum standards established by the university.
ODU, which recognizes the expense of investing in a new notebook computer, is offering special pricing on PC and Apple computers that are recommended by the Mobile Monarch program. The program also provides a four-year warranty, on-campus technical support and repair services, and accidental damage protection.
"The Mobile Monarch program offers quality notebook computer configurations customized to meet academic technology requirements at Old Dominion University. The program was developed to eliminate any worry or guesswork for students when buying a computer to attend ODU," said Rusty Waterfield, acting assistant vice president for computing and communications services.
Software that goes beyond the operating systems and standard word processing features is another important component for a college student's notebook computer. The Mobile Monarch computers come equipped with several essential programs including (for PCs) Microsoft Windows Vista, McAfee, Adobe Reader 8, Photoshop Elements, Microsoft Office and several other software applications. Apple Mac Books come with the Leopard operating system, McAfee and other programs.
Although the university encourages the purchase of one of the recommended notebooks offered by the Mobile Monarch program, students may bring a non-program notebook to campus. Computers not purchased through the Mobile Monarch program, however, will have limited technical support.
