Monarchs To Face UVA After First-Round Win Over Rider In CBI

The Old Dominion Monarchs (18-15) held off the Broncs of Rider University (23-11) Tuesday night to win the first ever College Basketball Invitational (CBI) game and advance to the quarterfinals against the University of Virginia. The Cavaliers beat Richmond by two in their opening-round contest.

Redshirt freshman Frank Hassell notched a career-high 14 points and added nine rebounds to lead the Monarchs in first-round action at the Ted Constant Convocation Center. Brandon Johnson added 10 points with seven rebounds, six assists, three blocks and a steal. All 63 points for Rider came from its starting five as the Monarch reserves outscored the Broncs' bench 30-0.

ODU will play UVA Monday, March 24, at 7p.m. at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, VA
