ODU'S YOCHUM TO APPEAR ON "HEARSAY" WITH CATHY LEWIS TODAY

Gilbert R. Yochum, professor of economics at Old Dominion University, will be a guest on WHRV-FM's (89.5) midday talk show, "HearSay with Cathy Lewis," at today at 12:30 p.m. The program, "Focus on the Economy," will discuss the recently announced federal economic stimulus package and the increasing importance of the economy to voters.

Yochum, who joined the university in 1975, is the director of ODU's Economic Forecasting Project. He currently serves as a member of the Governor's Advisory Board of Economists for the commonwealth of Virginia. Professor Yochum, who was chair of the ODU economics department from 1991 to 2000, has also served as the advisory economist to the U.S. Intelligence Service Conference on Economic Intelligence and for several years led the Naval and Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center seminar on "Economic Intelligence."

Yochum has been an economic consultant to more than 40 companies and government agencies and offered testimony before the National Labor Relations Board, U.S. Maritime Administration and Virginia State Corporation Commission. He is the author or co-author of more than 60 professional journal publications and research monographs. A sample of his academic publications includes the journals Industrial Relations, Public Choice, Economic Inquiry, International Migration Review, Social Science Quarterly, Journal of Behavioral Economics and International Advances in Economic Research.

In addition to citations in professional publications, Yochum's work has been noted in more than 130 newspaper, magazine and wire reports throughout the United States, including the Dow Jones Newswires, Associated Press and USA Today.
